POL 1130 - Introduction to Polish Language and Culture

About The Course

The goal of POL1130 is to introduce the student to the Polish language and culture. As a course for beginners, it is assumed that the student may have no prior knowledge of the language.

POL1130 is the first course of a two-course sequence. It will be most beneficial to take both courses. At the same time, taking one course (POL1130) is better than not taking any Polish language course at all.  At the end of the course, students are expected to recreate material taught in classes, develop vocabulary around specific topics, use common structures, and develop a beginner level of familiarity and confidence in the language.

Course Goals

• Use nouns and adjectives in four of seven cases.
• Use basic and frequent verbs in conversations about familiar topics.
• Choose the correct case for the noun when given one of the verbs listed in vocabulary for lesson 1 - 9.
• Count in range 0 to 1000.
• Use numbers in relation to age, currency, telephone numbers and addresses.
• Outline general history of Poland and be able to discuss in detail one topic from Polish culture or history.
• Outline physical geography of Poland.
